When Robert Ronke first came across Food2Soil during our early crowdfunding campaign, he didn’t just chip in – he dove in. Based in Far North Queensland, Robert was curious about the idea of turning food waste into something powerful. He backed the campaign, bought some of our biofertiliser, and decided to put it to the test in his own backyard.
Using a mix of mill mud (a by-product of sugarcane), sandy loam, and a good dose of Food2Soil, Robert planted pumpkin seeds he’d harvested and dried himself. Some were soaked before planting, and those soaked seeds? Nearly 100% germination. The results were nothing short of spectacular.
With just two pumpkin plants, Robert grew over 500 pumpkins – more than six tonnes in total! He watered with Food2Soil every four weeks (with one gap of eight weeks), picked flowers and shoots to boost productivity, and planted the pumpkins on mounds so they could sprawl downhill, which seemed to supercharge their growth.
But it wasn’t just the bumper crop that got him hooked.
Robert loved the whole ethos behind Food2Soil – transforming waste into living, microbially-rich biofertiliser that actually works. So much so, he’s now selling Food2Soil products at local markets across North Queensland, helping others grow healthy, thriving gardens and crops the natural way.
