Made from 100% recycled materials, this kit includes:

  • Biochar Soil Improver (7L bag) — A premium-grade certified organic biochar made from Australian nutshell biomass using clean pyrolysis. Its high surface area and porous structure trap water and nutrients while creating a rich habitat for microbes.

  • All-Purpose Biofertiliser (2L bottle) — Packed with billions of live microbes to activate the biochar and add an instant boost of all-natural nutrients to your soil.

Together, these products improve soil structure, boost water retention, and build a healthy, microbe-rich soil ecosystem.

How to activate your biochar (enough for 1m² of soil):

  1. Mix 20ml of All-Purpose Biofertiliser with 80ml of water.
  2. Pour over 1L of Biochar, stir well and let it sit for 30 minutes.
  3. Then mix into the top 30cm of soil.

Use on all soil and plant types — from veggies and natives to potted plants and lawns. Pairs perfectly with compost and other organic amendments. Also helps reduce reliance on synthetic fertiliser by enhancing natural nutrient retention.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Biochar and why bother activating it?

Biochar is a super porous, carbon-rich material made by heating organic biomass—like nut shells or crop waste—without much oxygen (a process called pyrolysis). On its own, biochar is kind of like an empty sponge. It won’t do any harm, but it’s not especially helpful until you activate it. When you soak biochar in a mix full of nutrients and beneficial microbes, it becomes bioactive—ready to hold onto water and nutrients, and to support life in your soil. That’s when the real magic starts.

How do I activate biochar at home with this kit?

Good news—activating biochar is easy with this kit. Here’s what to do: 1) Mix 20 ml of the All-Purpose Biofertiliser with 80 ml of water. 2) Pour that mixture over 1 litre of the Biochar Soil Improver. 3) Give it a good stir so the biochar is fully coated. 4) Let it sit for at least 30 minutes—this gives the microbes time to settle into their new home. 5) Then simply mix it into the top 30 cm of your garden soil. Be sure to always cover with mulch. That’s it. You’ve just activated biochar, and created the perfect environment for a thriving soil ecosystem. One batch like this is enough to treat around 1 square metre of soil.

Why use activated biochar – and where can I use it?

Once you activate biochar, it becomes a powerhouse for your soil. It 1) holds onto water and nutrients, 2) improves soil structure and aeration, 3) encourages healthy microbes, 4) supports deeper root growth, 5) balances pH and reduces acidity. You can use activated biochar anywhere—veggie patches, ornamental beds, pots, even with Australian natives. Whether your soil is sandy, heavy clay, or something in between, it’s a great all-rounder.

Can I mix activated biochar with compost?

Definitely. In fact, it’s a great combo. Activated biochars soak up all the goodness in compost—like nutrients and microbes—and hold onto it instead of letting it wash away. You get richer, more productive soil and better value from your compost too.

How does activated biochar help save water and replace fertilisers?

Here’s where activated biochar really shines: it acts like a sponge (it has a huge surface area), soaking up water and nutrients, then releasing them slowly to your plants. That means less watering, less runoff, and stronger, more resilient growth. And because our All-Purpose Biofertiliser is packed with natural nutrients and billions of live microbes, it works alongside the biochar to give your plants everything they need—without synthetic fertilisers. You get immediate benefits and long-term soil health, all in one go.

What makes this kit a sustainable choice?

This kit is all about making the most of what we’ve already got. The biochar is made from waste nut shells—stuff that would otherwise be binned. The fertiliser is made from fermented food and coffee waste. So not only are you improving your soil, but you're also helping keep waste out of landfill and supporting a circular economy. Plus, once you activate biochar and add it to your soil, it stays there for years, improving the land and locking away carbon. It’s a win for your garden and a win for the planet.
